What Makes Alamo Heights Unique?

  • McNay Art Museum - Built by educator Marion Koogler McNay in the 1920s, the Spanish Colonial Revival-style home opened as the first museum of modern art in 1954. Mrs. McNay believed that the experience of great art should be available to everyone. Today visitors become captivated by magnificent works of art by 20th-century luminaries including Paul Gauguin, Vincent Van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. A vital partner in arts education, the McNay adults, teachers, students and families with a variety of arts education programs and educational resources, including a fine arts reference library and interpretive information about art in the museum's collection and exhibitions.   
  • Quarry Golf Club -  A unique course carved out of an abandoned quarry, it placed among the top ten of "America's Top State Golf Courses" in Golf Digest magazine.
  • Witte Museum -  The   Witte  Museum    is   San Antonio   's premiere   museum   of  South Texas    history, culture, and natural science. Located in   Brackenridge  Park   , on the banks of the   San Antonio  River   , the Witte offers permanent exhibits that include dinosaur skeletons, cave drawings, wildlife dioramas, and even some live animals. Several historic homes have been reconstructed on the campus, which also features the very popular H-E-B Science Treehouse. Changing galleries include   Texas    artists, textiles and showcase exhibits, some locally produced and some traveling national exhibits.
