Converse is on Farm Road 1976 and located next to Randolph Air Force Base adjacent to Live Oak, Universal City, and the City of Windcrest in northeast Bexar County, just thirteen miles northeast of downtown San Antonio in northeastern Bexar County. It was named for the chief engineer of the Southern Pacific Railroad, a Major Converse, who in 1877 bought a tract of land including the townsite. The city has an area of 6.3 square miles and a population of 11,508 est.
